The Minority in Parliament has launched a fierce criticism of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of misleading Ghanaians with false promises made during the 2024 general election campaign to secure victory.
Speaking during the debate on the second batch of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial nominees on Tuesday, January 21, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed discontent with the NDC’s campaign rhetoric, which he described as deceptive.
Despite the allegations, Afenyo-Markin assured that the Minority would hold the government accountable for its promises. He raised doubts about the government’s ability to fulfill its pledges, warning that winning an election does not grant unlimited authority.
“The government must understand that we will be closely monitoring every action to ensure transparency and accountability,” Afenyo-Markin emphasized. He also cautioned that the NDC’s campaign was built on unrealistic promises and suggested that Ghanaians would soon see the ruling party’s true intentions.
The Minority Leader further questioned the government’s ability to meet the lofty expectations it had set during the election campaign. “You think you campaigned and got it handed to you on a silver platter? You will see. You call us a micro Minority, but you will see,” he warned.
Afenyo-Markin concluded by reiterating his caucus’s commitment to closely tracking the government’s performance on every promise made during the campaign, ensuring that none of them would be overlooked or left unfulfilled. “Today, you are in government, and we will follow through on every single promise you made while on the campaign platform,” he added.
