The Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Jocelyn Tetteh, has called for an increase in ministerial appointments for MPs from the Volta Region, asserting that the region’s hard work and dedication to the party warrant greater representation in the government.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, January 21, Tetteh stated, “Given the effort we have put in as a region, I believe we deserve more than the three appointments we currently have. While every region has contributed, our efforts, in particular, deserve more recognition.”
Tetteh underscored the political significance of the Volta Region, noting that MPs from the region worked relentlessly under challenging circumstances to retain their seats. Despite facing limited resources, they managed to perform well for the party. “We secured 18 seats, including reclaiming the one MPP seat we lost. Out of these, two women emerged victorious. This is an achievement that should not be overlooked,” she added.
The North Dayi MP further appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider the region’s loyalty and ongoing support when making future appointments. “We hope that His Excellency will take notice of the Volta Region, as we have been a stronghold for his party and have remained committed. We want to continue to provide that unwavering support.”
However, she acknowledged that the ultimate decision on appointments lies with the President. “It is not for us to decide who he appoints or does not appoint. It’s about his discretion and what he believes is best for the government,” Tetteh said.
In closing, the MP expressed optimism about the region’s contributions being recognized, adding, “We believe increasing the number of appointments from the region would not be a bad thing at all.”
