NPP’s Abronye DC faces CID in Accra over Mahama coup allegation

Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has honoured an invitation by the police for alleging that former president John Mahama plans to stage a coup, sources say.

A statement issued by the police on Tuesday (15 February) has asked Abronye DC to report to the police headquarters by 4pm today to assist with investigations.

“The attention of the Police Service was drawn to a publication in which Kwame Baffoe Alias Abronye DC is alleged to have said that former President John Mahama is allegedly planning to stage a coup.

“The Accra Regional Police Command has invited Kwame Baffoe to report to the regional headquarters by 4pm today to assist investigation failure of which he will be arrested,” the police statement said.

The NPP stalwart is alleged to have said that John Mahama had met with Al-Qaeda militants to engage them on how to topple the governing party.

Abronye DC, according to some media reports, claimed that Mr. Mahama approached the group in a bid to help him become president again.

The NPP communicator allegedly made the claim on Hot 93.9 FM in Accra, while responding to the arrest of #FixTheCountry convener, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor.
