The Member of Parliament for Ofoase/Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has reaffirmed the Minority’s commitment to thoroughly examining the 2025 budget to ensure it delivers meaningful benefits to Ghanaians.
He emphasized that Parliament plays a crucial role in assessing the government’s commitments, programs, and allocated budgets to ensure their effectiveness and long-term viability.
His comments come ahead of the highly anticipated budget presentation by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
In a press release, the former Information Minister reiterated that the Minority remains dedicated to holding the government accountable and ensuring that promises made to the people of Ghana are honored.
“Our job as Parliament is to examine the commitments/programs and to examine the budgets for each of them. Our job is to assess, make recommendations, and, in the end, approve the policy and the budget,” he stated.
He further explained that the Minority would apply their experience in government, lessons from past administrations, and feedback from constituents when evaluating and approving the budget.
“We will bring to bear the knowledge we’ve acquired in government, the lessons from what went right and wrong in our era, and the feedback from our constituents in our assessment and approvals,” he added.
Oppong Nkrumah also underscored the importance of transitioning from political rhetoric to practical governance in addressing national challenges.
“It’s good that finally the propaganda is going to give way to governance programs that can respond to the outstanding challenges our people face. We in the minority will do our part to help these programs succeed for the people of Ghana,” he noted.
As the nation anticipates the 2025 budget, the Minority’s commitment to conducting a comprehensive review sets the stage for rigorous parliamentary scrutiny and accountability.
