Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has named a 23-man squad for the 2025 Unity Cup happening in London this week. The squad includes a mix of locally-based and foreign-based players, with four players from the Ghana Premier League making the cut.
The local contingent features Benjamin Asare from Hearts of Oak, Razak Simpson of Nations FC, Kamaradini Mamudu from Medeama SC, and Kwame Opoku of Asante Kotoko.
Joseph Tetteh Anang, a goalkeeper formerly with West Ham United and currently playing for St. Patrick’s Athletic in Ireland, has been given his first opportunity with the senior national team.
Rising stars Abdul Aziz Issah and Aaron Essel, who were standout performers for the Black Satellites during the recent U-20 AFCON in Egypt, have also received call-ups.
In-form defender Caleb Yirenkyi, who has impressed in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland, and Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise, are among the notable inclusions.
Several players are making a return to the squad, including Abdul Samed Salis of Sunderland, Felix Afena Gyan, and Majeed Ashimeru from Anderlecht. Afena Gyan is back after being away from the team for nearly two years, while Salis returns after recovering from an injury that kept him out for much of the season.
The selected players will gather in London to kick off preparations for the tournament, which also features Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Ghana’s opening match is scheduled against Nigeria at the GTech Community Stadium in West London on Wednesday, May 28. The winner of that clash will secure a place in the final, which will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
