President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. This follows the dismissal of Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah from the position.

The announcement was made through an official statement issued on April 30, 2025, and signed by Callistus Mahama, the Secretary to the President.

The statement also confirmed that Dr. Baidoo’s appointment would be formalized in accordance with the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 525), as amended.

The change in leadership has sparked a range of reactions, particularly from the Asante youth, some of whom have called on President Mahama to reconsider and reinstate Prof. Addai-Mensah.

The situation has created a debate on the leadership transition at one of Ghana’s prominent medical institutions.
