President John Dramani Mahama has called for enhanced US support to address the escalating security threats in the West African subregion.

He made this appeal during bilateral discussions with General Michael E. Langley, Commander of the US African Command (USAFRICOM), on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the US and the Ghana Armed Forces, particularly in security cooperation and logistics, to bolster their response capabilities.

> “Today’s meeting with General Langley highlights Ghana’s commitment to enhancing our security posture in response to evolving threats across the region. We appreciate the support of the United States and are keen to expand our collaborative efforts,” Mahama stated.

His discussions with General Langley come amid growing security threats in West Africa, including terrorism, extremism, and regional conflicts that contribute to instability.

A key focus of their engagement was the potential establishment of a bilateral agreement to conduct joint maritime patrols aimed at protecting Ghana’s coastal waters, combating illegal fishing, and countering piracy.

Beyond security concerns, President Mahama also advocated for increased foreign investment in Ghana, highlighting the importance of maintaining a stable environment to foster economic growth and business expansion.

The Munich Security Conference, a prestigious global forum, brings together world leaders, security experts, and policymakers to deliberate on pressing international security issues.
