At least one person has died after a Sprinter bus got involved in an accident near Damongo in the West Gonja District of the Savannah Region, reports say.

Two others are said to be in critical condition while 17 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The two have been referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment, local media reported.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at Bonyato, a farming community near Damongo on the Wa-Damongo highway, witnesses say.

The Blue sprayed vehicle with registration number NR 514 —17 reportedly bursts one of the back tyres causing it to veer off the road and somersaulted severally.

Officers from the West Gonja District Police Headquarters were called to the scene to convey the injured to the hospital.

An official statement is yet to be released by the police on the incident.

Ghana has been recording a series of vehicular accidents in recent times.

At least 35 persons died at Dompoase on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway late last month.

Authorities have since stepped up efforts to reduce the carnages on the roads.
