Suspects involved in kidnapping of Dedesua Chief granted ¢210k bail

The seven suspects alleged to have kidnapped the chief of Dedesua, a community in the Asante Akyem South District of the Ashanti Region have each been granted a ¢30,000 bail by the Juaso Circuit Court.

Each suspect has also been ordered by the court to provide two sureties who live within the court’s jurisdiction to justify the bail conditions.

The suspects have been named as Edward Kwadwo Bonsu, Kwame Margo, Kwabena Ofori and Theophilus Benjamin.

The rest are Yakubu Adams, Musah Agandaa and Benjamin Gbli.

They were arrested by the police for assault and kidnap of one Nana Owusu Sefa Brempong II, the Chief of Dedesua.

According to the police, it received information about the incident on Monday, March 1, 2021, and immediately dispatched the Konongo Police Patrol team to act upon it.

It said the suspects were arrested together with the victim aboard an unregistered Honda Civic private car and a Toyota Matrix Taxi cab at Kubease near Ejisu that same day.

Police said it was able to rescue the victim and accost the suspects.

“The victim was seen with injuries and was therefore issued with a police medical form to attend hospital and report back to police to assist in investigation. The suspects are in police custody assisting in the investigation. Among other things, the investigation will uncover the motive for the kidnapping,” a statement signed by spokesperson of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said.

Details on what may have triggered the kidnapping incident and where the victim was being taken to are yet to be established by the police.

The court has since adjourned the case to March 19, 2021. The suspects were yet to satisfy the bail conditions as at press time.
