Techiman: Suspect in fatal hit-and-run that killed policeman turns himself in

One of the suspects believed to have struck a policeman, killing him, has turned himself in, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed.

The update follows a discovery by the police in the Bono East Region that a fuel tanker was involved in the Friday incident which led to the death of Constable Francis Odoi.

The accident occurred at about 17:30 hours when the deceased was in charge of a Honda motorbike with registration number M-12-GR 9552 heading towards Techiman, according to the police.

“On reaching a section of the road few distances to a junction close to a Shell filling station, a red private vehicle which was following him closely and he was alleged to have run into the motorbike and as a result, the constable fell and was run over by a DAF fuel tanker”, Bono East MTTD Commander Chief/Supt Daniel Oppong Asirifi told the media at a briefing.

“After the incident, both vehicles sped off so eyewitnesses managed to rush the policeman to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival”, he added.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman for preservation and autopsy.

The driver of the fuel tanker with registration number GN 2652–13 is in “custody to assist the police in their investigations”, according to Chief/Supt Daniel Assirifi.

He appealed to residents to provide credible information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect driver of the saloon car.
