Students of Bimbila Senior High School (SHS) in the Northern Region are struggling with a severe water shortage, making daily life on campus extremely difficult. The crisis has forced students to walk long distances in search of water for drinking, bathing, and other essential activities.

Reports indicate that the school’s boreholes have either dried up or become unreliable, worsening the situation. Some students wake up as early as 3:00 AM to fetch water from nearby communities, often arriving late to class and exhausted.

A student, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the hardship: “We have to leave campus to look for water, and sometimes we miss morning classes. The situation is affecting our studies and personal hygiene.”

The school’s administration has acknowledged the problem and is appealing to authorities for urgent intervention. A senior staff member noted that efforts to resolve the crisis have been ongoing but require immediate government support.

“We are doing everything possible to address the issue, but we need help. The school’s population keeps growing, and the current water supply is not enough to meet the demand,” the official stated.

Parents and residents in Bimbila have also expressed concern, calling on the government and stakeholders to provide sustainable solutions, such as mechanized boreholes or an extension of the town’s water supply to the school.

Meanwhile, some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have pledged to support efforts in addressing the crisis. However, students and staff remain hopeful for a long-term solution to ensure uninterrupted academic activities.
