‘We’re with you’ – GFA, Kotoko mourn killed football players

Tributes are already pouring in following an accident that claimed the lives of six young footballers at Offinso in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

They were part of a 36-member team whose vehicle they were traveling in fell into the Offin River Saturday.

The victims, who belong to the Colts Club, a local division team in the Offinso Municipality in the Ashanti Region were returning from Afrancho, near Kumasi when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Four persons are in critical condition as police say they have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Top African football club, Kumasi Asante Kotoko has expressed its condolences to the bereaved family.

“Our heartfelt condolence goes to the families and loved ones of the victims of the Colts Club involved in the tragic accident at Offinso”, the club tweeted.

“We also pray for the victims and wish the injured a speedy recovery. We are with you”, the statement added.

Meanwhile, officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will be visiting the Offinso Community later Sunday.

The GFA said in a statement on its official website that it had already dispatched officials from the National Juvenile Committee to visit the victims at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

“Our thoughts are with the family of the departed and the victims. May their souls Rest in Peace”, the nation’s governing football body said in its statement.
