On a night filled with music, celebration, and heartfelt moments, legendary gospel musician Yaw Sarpong was honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), held on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
The award recognized Yaw Sarpong’s decades of unwavering dedication to the gospel music industry and his profound impact on Ghana’s musical heritage. For over 40 years, he has been a central figure in the growth and evolution of indigenous gospel music, touching lives with his unique voice, powerful messages, and enduring passion for ministry through music.
Yaw Sarpong, founder and lead vocalist of the iconic Asomafo Band, has carved a distinct path in the gospel music scene. His soulful delivery and inspirational lyrics have made him a household name, with timeless songs that continue to resonate across generations.
In a moving tribute video played during the awards ceremony, Yaw Sarpong extended heartfelt appreciation to all who have supported him throughout his journey.
“I thank all Ghanaians. You all helped my career and let the world knew about me,” he said. “I want to thank my team I worked with in the studio—the first person is Maame Tiwaa, George Amoako, Jerry Budu. I appreciate you all, Ghanaians.”
His words reflected not just gratitude but a deep sense of humility and community—values that have defined his musical journey.
