2023 AFCON Qualifiers: Angola 1 – 1 Ghana – Black Stars saved by Paintsil, Bukari brilliance

Ghana’s Black Stars draw 1-1 against the Palancas Negras of Angola in Luanda in the reverse fixture of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Luanda.

Ghana came under severe pressure and had to rely on goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati-Zigi to save their blushes.

Ghana rallied back from a goal down to draw 1-1 against the South African country to move top of Group E with eight points.

Angola were the better team in the opening exchanges and nearly took the lead under one minute with good effort from the left side of attack.

The Palancas Negras remained the better team and probed further in the first half with consistent attack on the porous defense of the Stars.

The Ghana team came forward on one or two occasions with Antoine Semenyo heavily involved in all the attacks of the Stars team.

The opening half ended goalless.

In the second half of the match, Angola remained the better team and was rewarded for their effort when they were awarded a spot kick.

Reading FC forward, Jaoa Lucas converted the spot kick to give the Red and Blacks outfit a deserving lead.

Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton made substitution which had a straight forward impact on the team as Ghana begun taking control of game.

Joseph Paintsil set up Osman Bukari to score the equalizer for Ghana 18 minutes to the end of the match as it ended 1 – 1 at full time.

Ghana tops the table with eight points from four games remaining unbeaten with Central African Republic on seven points, Angola on five points and Madagascar last with a point.
