President Akufo-Addo has revealed that he is yet to receive a congratulatory message from his main contender, John Mahama, three years on.
The statement was made during a speech delivered in anticipation of Constitution Day.
In a lighter moment, President Akufo-Addo paused and humorously remarked, “On a lighter note, three years on, I am still waiting for my main opponent in the 2020 election to congratulate me on my victory.”
This playful comment may evoke memories of the post-election period when Mahama challenged the results in court.
Following the 2020 election, Mahama took the Electoral Commission and President Akufo-Addo to court, seeking the nullification of the results and a rerun.
However, on March 4, 2021, the Supreme Court dismissed the election petition, stating that it lacked merit. Chief Justice Anin Yeboah emphasized that the petitioner failed to satisfy all five issues outlined by the court to determine the case.
