AngloGold suspends Obuasi operations as search for missing miner continues

Rescue teams are searching for an employee of a mining contractor with AngloGold Ashanti following a “fall of ground” in its Obuasi Gold Mine in Ghana.

The incident which occured Tuesday morning has forced the mining giant to suspend all operations.

“The mine rescue teams have been working tirelessly in difficult geotechnical conditions in the immediate area, to relocate the missing colleague”, AngloGold Ashanti said in a statement Thursday.

The statement said relevant authorities have been notified and are providing support during this time.

“Safety remains our highest priority and all mining activity has been suspended. An update on the situation will be provided in due course”, the statement concluded.
