Anin Yeboah: Vetting of Ghana’s chief justice nominee postponed to Dec. 23

The vetting of Justice Anin Yeboah, Ghana’s Chief Justice nominee, has been rescheduled to Monday, December 23, 2019, a statement from the nation’s Parliament has announced.

The nominee was initially to be vetted on Saturday, December 21, 2019 — a decision which was fiercely shot down by the Minority lawmakers who are largely members of the biggest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

It thus said it would not be part of the process on the said date.

“The refusal of the Minority in Parliament to participate in the scheduled vetting of President’s nominee has nothing to do with the person of the nominee. The Minority is refusing to depart from the usual practice of Parliament in giving the public a two week period to submit memoranda on nominees before they are vetted,” it said.

Regardless of the notice, the Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee (PAC), Joe Osei Owusu, said the Committee will proceed to vet the Chief Justice nominee once the committee forms a quorum.
