A communal clash between residents of Atwima Agogo and Atwima Twedie has left a trail of destruction, including vandalised vehicles, houses, and school properties.
This incident follows a previous disagreement between the two communities on Christmas Eve, sources say adding that at least two people have been arrested in this latest development.
Eyewitnesses report that tensions escalated on New Year’s Day when residents of Atwima Agogo allegedly launched an attack on their counterparts from Atwima Twedie. This resulted in significant injuries, damage to vehicles, houses, and personal belongings of Twedie residents.
In retaliation, some residents from Twedie also stormed the Atwima Agogo community, wreaking havoc on vehicles, homes, and belongings of the residents of Atwima Agogo and Boaso. The situation was eventually brought under control with the early intervention of the police.
The aftermath of the clash has created an atmosphere of fear among residents, affecting local transport services in the vicinity.
Augustine Osei, the assembly member for the Twedie electoral area, is demanding police protection pointing to planned reprisal attacks.
Meanwhile, affected individuals, such as a driver who gave his name as Darlington are urging for compensation.
“My vehicle was not spared”, Darlington said. “I often park it here and so I thought it was safe, only to find out it has been attacked. The windscreen, and side mirrors have been shattered. This is going to affect me financially because my only source of livelihood has been destroyed.”
“I pray that authorities will provide some form of support for us because things will be tough for some of us in the coming days”.
