A young lady was saved in a fire that erupted at the Electoral Commission Guest House in the Kumasi suburb of Danyame on Sunday (7 January), officials say.
The blaze, reported at 0636 hours, engulfed 3 out of 6 bedrooms, triggering swift responses from the guest house’s internal security and the public.
According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) fire engines were immediately deployed to the scene moments later.
“The combined efforts of RHQ Substation, Metro, KATH, and Manhyia Fire Stations brought the fierce blaze under control by 0822 hours”, the GNFS said.
“Remarkably, the public rescued a lady from one of the affected rooms before the arrival of the crew. While the cause of the fire is under investigation, the extent of damage includes 6 television sets, 3 mattresses, 1 meter, 4 ceiling fans, air conditioners, cooking utensils, 4 tables and chairs, and 3 wardrobes”, it added.
The Service did not provide any details about the cause of the fire declaring the situation under control.

On January 07, 2024, at 0636 hours, a fire erupted at Electoral Commission Guest House No. 1 in Danyame near Christina Court Hotel, Kumasi. The incident affected 3 out of 6 bedrooms, prompting immediate responses from the security man of the Guest House and the public using a 3kg carbon dioxide extinguisher. Despite the destruction, the adept firefighters managed to salvage the contents of three bedrooms within the Guest House. Led by the Regional Operations Officer, DO II Pokoo Aikins, the firefighting operation achieved successful extinguishment at 1113 hours, showcasing the crucial collaborative efforts of the Fire Stations in the Ashanti Region.
