The official vehicle assigned to a former acting director general of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Baffour Awuah, has been stolen, Dailymailgh.com can reveal.

Dr. Awuah, who is currently a medical director at the Ministry of Health, confirmed to Dailymailgh.com that an official complaint has been made to the police to investigate the whereabouts of his Toyota pick-up.

The dark vehicle with registration number GV 7-16 was allegedly stolen from his bungalow on January 4, 2020.

Police documents have it that the security man assigned to Dr. Awuah’s residence from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital failed to report to duty on that fateful day.

The security man has since been arrested to assist with investigation.

In late November 2019, President Akufo-Addo withdrew his choice for director general of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr. Awuah, amid criticism that the radiation oncologist was not qualified.

Though no reasons were given for the decision, critics especially, some doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have questioned his political affiliation.

The doctors perceived to be New Patriotic Party (NPP) members labelled Dr Awuah as a staunch member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), adding that his appointment could ruin the ruling party’s chances ahead of next year’s polls.

In a letter dated November 5, 2019, and signed by Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo , Dr Awuah was expected to head the GHS in an acting capacity “…pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing board of the Service, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”

He replaced Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare who has since been re-assigned to the presidency.
