Former Trades Minister and New Patriotic Party presidential hopeful Alan Kyerematen fears the country’s worsening economic conditions could affect the party’s chances in the 2024 general elections.

Alan who resigned as a member of the government’s Economic Management Team (EMT) to contest the New Patriotic Party’s presidential election said to enhance the prospects of the party winning the elections, a flagbearer with vision and integrity must be elected.

“Akufo-Addo has done well. He has initiated numerous programmes such as; 1D1F, Planting for Food and Jobs, and Free SHS, but we all know that currently, times are hard… Due to this hardship, our key message for campaigning as a party for the 2024 election is becoming difficult to identify…”, he said in Twi as quoted by myjoyonline.com.

Alan who made these remarks while addressing members of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council however maintains the need for the NPP to be retained in power.

“One of our main challenges as a country is the tendency for successive governments not to continue with their predecessor’s programmes and projects. This is what has derailed our development efforts. I, therefore, urge you to allow the NPP government to continue until this country develops to an appreciable state,” Mr Kyerematen urged.

Alan Kyerematen is currently on a nationwide tour to formally announce his presidential bid. He has already visited Ashanti, Bono, Ahafo and Bono East Regions.
