The Head of the Civil Service, Nana Agyekum Dwamena, has added his voice to calls to extend the term of government in Ghana to seven years.
He said the four-year term is not sufficient for an administration to live up to expectation as the first two years is used to properly put a government in place.
Mr. Dwamena spoke to Radio Ghana in Accra at the launch of Organization Development Practitioners Association.
Past calls
Former presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and John Mahama have also made similar calls in the past.
Kufuor in his submission said the constitutional changes will enable an elected President to deliver on his mandate more effectively, considering the enormous challenges and structural impediments in the country.
Mahama on his part said: ““I agree with President Kufuor I think a five-year term is better, first year, when you are elected, you are forming your government and before you’ve settled in you are in your second year, third year, fourth year you’re fighting an election. So essentially you have just two years to work and it makes it difficult.”
