Ghana Card extortionist busted in Kumasi over GhC20

A man has been arrested for alleged forgery and extortion in the ongoing Ghana Card registration in the Ashanti Region.

Isahaku Ishmael was arrested on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 by officials of the National Identification Authority (NIA) at the Pentecostal Life Registration Center at Breman-Abusuakruwa in the Suame Municipality.

He was reportedly engaging unsuspecting applicants under the pretext of enrolling them on the registration exercise.

“The suspect collected GHC20.00 from an applicant, Obeng Evans, cancelled the name of one Stephen Botchwey who had been guaranteed by his cousin Agyemang Gideon on NIA’s Oath of Identity form commissioned on 06/01/2020”, parts of an incident report published by the police read.

The suspect was later arrested by officials of the NIA and subsequently handed him over to the Suame Divisional Police Command.

He was rearrested and detained assisting police in their investigation.

Registration malpractices

Five persons have been arrested for allegedly engaging in various offenses in the ongoing Ghana Card registration in the Ashanti Region.

This was contained in a statement issued by the National Identification Authority (NIA) on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.

The suspects include four officers of the National Identification Authority (NIA) and a citizen.

They include; Kenneth Sarfo Boateng, —Commissioner for Oaths (CFO), Church of Christ Registration Center, Nyinampong, Asante-Mampong
Ransford Omane Osei
—Mobile Registration Workstation Officer(MRWO), Ampaabame Registration Center, near Ejisu.
De-graft Osei-Mensah — Supervising Registration Officer (SRO), Kentinkrono M/A Registration Center at KNUST.
Emmanuel Edusei Poku — District Registration Supervisor (DRS), Kentinkrono M/A Registration Center at KNUST.
Kwabena Dan — a resident of Nyinampong in the Asante-Mampong Municipality.

The arrests which occurred between 3rd and 6th January, 2020, were the result of collaborative efforts between the NIA and some aggrieved citizens in the Ashanti Region.
