Brandon Thomas-Asante stated his excitement and says he was very happy to be on the scoresheet again after he helped his team West Bromich Albion to a 2-0 win at Coventry on Monday night.
He was the second goal scorer for his team as they won 2-0 to move to the fifth spot on the league table after coming on as a second half substitute.
“You know how agonising those few games were where I didn’t get on the scoresheet, so I’m really happy to be back on there again,” said Thomas-Asante.
“With Matty (Phillips), you know the quality you are going to get game-in, game-out. It’s an honour to be playing with him.
“I ran as soon as he was on the ball, he found me and I just tried to get it past the goalkeeper. I’m happy that it went it, I’ll take it!
“I’m not a conventional striker, but obviously scoring is the major thing for me. If I don’t score, then I’m never fully satisfied.
“I also love to be involved and do something on the ball as well. I felt like, performance-wise, the things the coaches have been working on me with, I can see little improvements.
The striker came on as a substitute to net his second goal in as many games, sealing the Sky Bet Championship points for the Baggies.
And, talking to WBA TV after the game, Brandon couldn’t hide his delight as he reflected on the game, his performance and the team’s form.
“The manager has made it no secret that he feels I can contribute just as much when I come into a game, not just starting it.
“Obviously it’s a bit bittersweet because you want to play every minute. But that’s every player, we love the game and that’s what you want to do.
“My duty, whenever I am called upon, is to contribute however I can. Runs in behind and scoring is one thing, but there are many facets to being a striker in a Carlos Corberán team. The things I’ve been working on, hopefully he’s happy with me.
“We have that quiet confidence of wanting to be at the very top of the table. We know there are a few teams who have had better starts than us.
“But we’re looking forward now, and we’re happy to be hitting form. It’s not just luck, we know the amount we work we’re putting in, as staff and players.
“We’re happy it’s paying off. We just need to keep coming together as a team and seeing where it takes us.”
