‘I had to kneel for Sulley Muntari to be named in Black Stars for the World Cup’ – Kwesi Nyantakyi

Former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed that he practically begged for Sulley Muntari to be named in Black Stars squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament.

Due to reported indiscipline, Rajevac and Muntari were not on friendly terms during his first stint. The midfielder from Ghana’s 2010 Africa Cup of Nations roster was left out by the Serbian coach as the team managed a second-place finish.

Eventually, the Serbian coach included Muntari in his squad for the World Cup, but Andre Ayew was a starting player ahead of the former Inter Nilan star.

Nyantakyi claimed he asked twice for Muntari to be taken to the World Cup in an interview with Joy Sports.

He claims that he begged Rajevac twice to include the midfielder in his team for the competition in South Africa. “Yes, in 2010 I did it.
I did it twice, not even once,” the former GFA President said.

“I had to kneel for Sulley Muntari to be named in Black Stars for the World Cup.”
