Renowned Ghanaian football commentator and journalist, Joe Lartey, affectionately known as “Over to You,” has passed away, as confirmed by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).

Lartey, born on June 6, 1927, in Accra, Ghana, breathed his last on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the age of 96. A graduate of Accra Academy, he began his illustrious career in journalism at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1961, where he became a cherished voice in sports commentary.

Throughout his career, Lartey left an indelible mark on the Ghanaian sports landscape, serving as the inaugural president of SWAG and hosting iconic programs like Sports Digest on GTV. His influence transcended borders, earning him accolades such as the “A Life in Sport” award from the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) in 2022.

Lartey’s legacy as a pioneer in sports broadcasting resonates deeply with fans and colleagues, both in Ghana and beyond, as he is remembered for his unparalleled contributions to the field.
