There was anxiety at the Asokore Mampong Court when defence counsel Akua Affreh pushed for the release of the second accused person linked to the alleged murder of Kumasi businesswoman Stella Osei aka Afia Ahenkan.

James Anokye was picked up at his hideout in Accra, shortly after he was named as an accomplice by the prime suspect, John Alister. His lawyers mounted a strong defence for his release during proceedings on Tuesday (31 October 2023).

But the Samuel Buabin Quansah’s court rejected the application emphasizing that the accused is currently aiding the police in their ongoing investigations. The prosecution also prayed for more time as it awaits the Attorney General’s advice.

The case was consequently adjourned to 14 November 2023.

The gruesome murder of Afia Ahenkan at Sokoban Apaaso in Kumasi is still fresh in the minds of her family as they question the slow pace of the case.

But the police prosecutor ASP Stephen Ofori insists due process is being followed as he urged the family to remain calm in the interest of justice.

“The AG is assiduously working on the docket and in no time committal process will follow for the accused persons to stand trial at the High Court. This is a murder case and due process must follow and we are on course”, the senior police officer stated.
