The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua Esq, along with Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), the National Organiser, made a significant donation of GHC 200,000.00 towards the Heal Komfo Anokye Project.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is part of the King’s legacy projects which would see a massive facelift of the ‘GEE’ block of the hospital which has seen no major renovation since the hospital was established in 1955.
“To have seen our King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, lead the charge for this laudable initiative, we, the direct beneficiaries of the project and indigenes of Asanteman, could not sit aloof but had to come here this morning and pay our due so that we can also help Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah give this place the befitting facelift it deserves”, Kodua said during a brief ceremony to present the cash amount to KATH officials on Friday (17 November).
He further committed to encouraging NPP members and government appointees to contribute to the project, indicating that the party itself would soon donate. He also proposed the establishment of a maintenance and retooling Trust Scheme to encourage regular contributions from the public.
“I would suggest that the CEO initiates a Scheme so that people in the region and indigenes wherever could contribute to the same so as to enable KATH carry out its own retooling and maintenance to keep the hospital in shape”, he said.
KATH CEO Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, receiving the cheque expressed gratitude for the generous gesture. He emphasised the hospital’s significant role, receiving referrals from 12 regions daily, and stressed the importance of community contributions to complement government efforts in renovations and maintenance.
“Government cannot do these renovations and maintenance alone and so we were glad that the Asante King decided to lead this Heal Komfo Anokye initiative so we can get KATH in a proper shape to respond to cases more confidently and provide the best environment for visitors and staff’’, the CEO stated.
