Police in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, are investigating an alleged “assassination plot” targeting the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso and his family.

Three gunmen reportedly held Kennedy Kankam for over three hours making away with some valuables including his 4-wheel drive vehicle, Sunday dawn.

The unidentified assailants reportedly scaled a wall into the main yard of the lawmaker’s residence and used a metal cutter to gain access to his bedroom.

Director of Public Affairs at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, said the gunmen succeeded in robbing the MP and his family of an unspecified amount of money, a Land Cruiser vehicle and a Pump Action gun.

The seized vehicle, according to the police was abandoned at Edwinase, about 15 kilometres away from the crime scene, but no arrest has been made yet.

Crime scene personnel have visited the MP’s home and statements taken from him, his wife and the house help.

The latest incident follows the gruesome murder of Takoradi Constituency Treasurer of the NPP, at Fijai.

Mr Mark Ofori was shot and killed by unknown assailants who gained access to his home last week.

No arrest has been made.

In 2016, Abuakwa South legislator of the NPP, J.B Danquah Adu, was also murdered in his house in Accra.

Though some suspects are standing trial, the mystery behind his murder is yet to be uncovered.
