Leaked tape: Bugri Naabu’s alleged spiritual strategy to remove IGP pops up

Superintendent George Asare, a senior police officer, has made startling allegations regarding a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

Testifying before a parliamentary committee probing an alleged leaked tape to oust the IGP, the police officer said Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is implicated in this plot.

Superintendent Asare said the politician recommended among others enlisting the services of Mallams, spiritual leaders, to facilitate the removal of the IGP from his position. He told the Attah-Akyea-led parliamentary committee that Bugri Naabu specifically recommended three Mallams for the task.

He further alleged that Bugri Naabu advised pursuing a dual strategy of both physical and spiritual measures to achieve their objectives. Despite the IGP being a Christian, Bugri Naabu purportedly argued for the involvement of spiritual interventions.

Superintendent Asare recounted that Bugri Naabu cited instances where he had assisted individuals in seeking spiritual support to advance their careers in influential positions. Although he expressed his reservations about the idea of resorting to spiritual help, but Bugri Naabu insisted on this approach.

“He provided examples of individuals he had assisted spiritually in the past to secure positions. This was a private conversation, and I prefer not to disclose the details here. However, he insisted on the importance of involving Mallams in this effort. So, based on this, I made the statement that Alhaji, you are the spiritual controller, because Bugri Naabu made it clear that when seeking a position, one should engage in both spiritual and physical battles”, Asare said.

“Chief Bugri Naabu was aware that COP Alex Mensah, is a Christian, but he also wanted him to as well allow him to consult some Mallams for him. That is why I said Alhaji [Bugri Naabu] this is one is your job, you can do it, if you can help,” he said.

He indicated that the one who doctored the tape had ‘evil’ intentions because the part where he objected to the use of mallams was edited out of the leaked audio.

“The one who doctored the tape actually meant something evil because this is a conversation we have had, what was going through my mind I said it, but it wasn’t captured on the tape,” he said.

This revelation adds a new dimension to the ongoing investigation into the alleged plot against the IGP and raises questions about the role of spiritual practitioners in such matters.
