Mr. Ahiagbah says the government is already addressing the economic crisis

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Ahiagbah has said that former President John Mahama’s address contained no new information.

Mr. Mahama who was addressing the nation at a forum dubbed “Building the Ghana We Want” reiterated his call for the dismissal of Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta. He said Mr. Ofori-Atta has poorly managed the country’s economy.

“The president must not only replace his Finance Minister; he must also reconstitute and take control of the Economic Management Team himself”, the former 2020 presidential candidate said as he announced a raft of measures to address the sinking economy.

But in a tweet, the NPP’s director of communications Mr. Ahiagbah said the address was “39 pages of little. Nothing new was said. and the ruling new patriotic party is fixing the problem.”

The escalating cost of living, the depreciating cedi, and a possible programme with the IMF are top on the agenda as President Akufo-Addo assembles his cabinet and the ruling party’s leadership for a three-day retreat.

In the last three days, the President has been engaging representatives from various sectors of the economy, to understand their concerns, and take their input as the government takes steps to arrest the situation.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the retreat will end with a national broadcast on Sunday by the President detailing the government’s responses to deal with the economic crisis.
