Man, 61, shot dead in daylight robbery attack in Takoradi

A Ghanaian domiciled in Switzerland was shot dead during a daylight robbery attack at Amanful in the Western Regional capital Takoradi.

Officers from the Takoradi Divisional Command confirmed the development to dailymailgh.com.

The victim, Charles Kwakye, 61, who sustained gunshot wounds at the right chest was confirmed dead by medics at the Takoradi Government Hospital, police say.

Investigations reveal that the deceased had returned to Ghana from Switzerland to monitor his ongoing projects in Takoradi.

He was on board a Hyundai Sonata with registration number GE 4022-16 and had gone to Amanful to buy some building materials when he was accosted by six armed men.

“Whilst in their Hyundai Sonata private vehicle parked at Amanful, they were accosted and attacked by six armed men on motorbikes”, a police statement said.

“One of them got hold of their traveling bag containing cash sum of 6,000 CFA, €50, 80 Switz Franc and ¢12,700”, parts of the report read.

Police further reveal that the victim struggled with the armed men who shot the victim and bolted with the booty.

Monday’s shooting incident comes after two separate attacks on Mobile Money merchants in Sekondi.

Police say no arrest has been made as they appeal to the general public for credible information to get the suspects arrested.
