A military officer has reportedly been locked up for speaking against the controversial new parliamentary complex.

In a viral video, the officer is heard appealing to President Akufo-Addo not to support the move.

The yet-to-be-identified officer is also heard describing calls for the erection of the new chamber as selfish on the part of the legislators.

Local media reports suggest that the uniformed officer could spend about a month in detention in accordance with military regulations.

Close sources at the military hierarchy tell Dailymailgh.com that his comments amount to an offence described in the military as ‘disloyalty’.

3 Anti-chamber protesters arrested

Social media has been set alight following a plan to construct a new chamber for Ghanaian lawmakers.

The move has been heavily criticised by a section of the public and civil society organizations.

On Friday, July 5, commander of a group calling itself Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah and two others were arrested after screaming in Parliament in protest of the move.

A loud noise from the public gallery, “drop that chamber”, brought proceedings to a standstill for some minutes.

They started chanting after NPP MP for Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti region, K.T Hammond for justifying the controversial plan insisting “MPs cannot sit under trees”.

The three have since been released after they were sent to the Ministries Police Station for questioning.
