Police arrest suspect in Odumase-Badu road robbery

Following a distressing robbery, the Ghana Police Service swiftly acted, capturing a suspect involved in the assault and robbery on the Odumase-Badu road near Sunyani, in the Bono Region.

 

The robbery occurred around 7 pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, targeting students and lecturers from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) returning from a field trip.

 

Sadly, during the attack, one student, Abdul Aziz Issah, lost his life. Reports indicate that the assailants, including the captured suspect and others still at large, launched a vicious assault, causing loss of life and injuries to several individuals.

 

Six students who sustained minor injuries received medical treatment and have been discharged.

 

The Ghana Police Service swiftly intervened, with their highway patrol teams leading to the arrest of one individual believed to be linked to the robbery. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining accomplices.

 

“The suspect, and his accomplices currently on the run, attacked and robbed students and lecturers of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) while returning from a field trip. A student, identified as Abdul Aziz Issah, sadly lost his life during the attack. Six other students who sustained minor injuries have been treated and discharged. Police highway patrol teams intervened and arrested one person. A manhunt is currently ongoing to get the other accomplices arrested to face justice,” stated the law enforcement agency.

 

The incident has deeply impacted the community, leading to calls for increased security measures along the Odumase-Badu road and other vulnerable routes in the region. The Ghana Police Service reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring citizen safety and promised a thorough investigation into the robbery, with swift justice for the perpetrators.

 

The capture of the suspect represents a significant milestone towards holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
