Asampohene's death: Police declare Sadat Mohammed wanted

The main suspect in the killing of Otumfuo’s sub-chief, Nana Kwadwo Afoduo, has been arrested, local media reported Tuesday.

Mohammed Sadat, 38, was arrested in Burkina Faso by police in Paga in the Upper East Region – with support of security operatives in Ghana’s neighbouring country.

He was reportedly fleeing to France en route to Senegal when he was arrested by operatives in Burkina Faso Sunday.

Police sources say the wife of the suspect, Nana Yaa Asantewaa Bonsu— the QueenMother of Pakyi Number 1 in the Ashanti Region, is also in custody.

Police believe the latest arrest will uncover the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of the late Otumfuo’s war marshal.

Police in the Ashanti Region are yet to give an official statement on the development.

Background

Nana Kwadwo Foduo’s body was found at the backseat of his Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle at Ebuom on the Ejura-Nkoranza Highway on Sunday evening with multiple stab wounds.

Known as Asamponhene, Nana Kwadwo Afoduo was gruesomely murdered by unknown assailants on the Ejura-Nkoranza road on Sunday, August 18, 2019.

His body was abandoned in his Land Cruiser vehicle and set on fire by the alleged killers on that fateful day.

It is the second time in 10 years a prominent personality linked to the Golden Stool has been killed under mysterious circumstances.

Asanteman hurt

Although the Manhyia Palace is yet to speak on the matter, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II together with the entire Asante Kingdom is hurt by the tragic killing of the sub-chief and war marshal.

Monarchical Historian, Osei-Bonsu Sarfo Kantanka, says Otumfuo is devastated by the death of his close relative and long-time chief driver.

“It is only natural to accept the fact that it would go deeper to hurt him [Asantehene]. It will hurt him a great deal,” he said.
