Twelve elected assembly members in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region have come together to endorse the candidacy of Hon Patricia Appiagyei, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa.

The Assemblymen, some of whom are delegates of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) are leading this campaign as the lawmaker vies for a remarkable 4th term in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary primaries.

Presiding Member Elliot Fosu Barnor, in a press conference on Wednesday (3 January), highlighted Hon Patricia Appiagyei’s exceptional knowledge of the assembly’s workings, emphasising her instrumental role in securing municipal status for Asokwa during the first term of the Akufo-Addo administration.

“Each of the twelve assembly members gathered here has had the benefit of witnessing proper development projects and programs, including basic amenities in health, security, social empowerment, and youth employment,” stated Mr Barnor.

Nana Yaw Wiredu, the elected assembly member for Ahinsan Estate, praised the incumbent MP for ensuring access to streetlights, support for schools and local businesses, and successful lobbying for crucial infrastructure projects such as roads, clinics, and social empowerment programs.

“Hon Patricia Appiagyei has been a consistent advocate for our constituency, leading to tangible outcomes such as the Lady Julia Clinic, the ongoing modern clinic for Asokwa Old Town, and numerous infrastructure projects across the twelve electoral areas,” noted Nana Yaw Wiredu.

Hon Patricia Appiagyei, the first female MP for Asokwa, has successfully secured three consecutive terms, winning elections in 2012, 2016, and 2020. As she sets her sights on a 4th term, she will face competition from two aspirants in the NPP Parliamentary primaries scheduled for January 27, 2024.
