THE LOCK-DOWN LOW-DOWN #8: Tottenham Hotspur

0

If you’re in any of the Ghanaian cities affected by the lock-down recently declared by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s head of state, we feel for you. If your own feeling of misery is due to the absence of football over the past few weeks, well, we share your pain, too.

If it helps, though, Daily Mail GH has compiled videos on your favorite European clubs that should help cheer you up until the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic eases its grip, the stay-at-home order is lifted, and football returns. Today, it’s the turn of England’s Tottenham Hotspur.

1. BUILDING A STADIUM – THE SPURS WAY

When football clubs build new stadia, they usually feel a financial pinch, but Spurs had no such issues when they completed and moved into their stunning new home in North London in April 2019. Find out how, against the odds, Daniel Levy and Co. bucked the trend.

2. HOW POCH’S SHIP SUNK

Things went downhill pretty fast for Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, going from a Champions League final to the Premier League’s bottom half in a matter of months. The plunge was as spectacular as it was shocking, but — as this video details — certainly not inexplicable.

3. TO DARE IS TO DO MOU

When Mourinho – Pochettino’s friend and replacement — joins a new club, more than his first game, it’s the Portuguese’s first press conference that is eagerly anticipated, for obvious reasons. At his unveiling by Spurs late last year, Mourinho didn’t disappoint; enjoy the best bits.

4. TRULY SPECIAL

When Jose Mourinho flashes his ‘Special One’ credentials, it’s usually in reference to how successful he has been as a manager. But it might as well also be because of how he manages to retain an Adidas endorsement deal despite being kitted by rival sportswear manufacturer Nike at Spurs. Just how does he do it?

5. LUNCH WITH THE STARS

Not long after Mourinho’s appointment, on his home debut, Greek side Olympiakos came visiting Spurs for a crunch Uefa Champions League group game. The hosts won 4-2, but only after battling back from a two-goal deficit, courtesy efforts from Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Serge Aurier . . . and a little help from one smart ball-boy. The kid, to his utter delight, was rewarded for his heroics in a most memorable way.
