Ghanaian boxer Richard Oblitey Commey on Saturday night suffered a humiliating defeat to Hundurian-American boxer Teofimo Andrés Rivera Lopez.
The bout took place in the United States of America at the Madison Square Garden.
The IBF lightweight world champion Richard “RC” Commey (29-2, 26 KOs) was defending his title against Brooklyn native and rising star Teofimo Lopez (14-0, 11 KOs).
Commey suffered a hefty uppercut blow in the face in the second round and could not continue with the fight as the referee deemed it right and necessary to stop the fight to prevent any further damage to the Ghanaian who could barely stand on his feet.
This is the second time in 2019 that Ghana has lost a world title with the first being Isaac Dogbe and Commey also succumbing to defeat last night.
