The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East Abena Osei-Asare on Thursday (June 15) launched a life insurance policy for various groups in the Eastern Region town.
Dubbed ‘The Abena Osei-Asare Life Insurance Policy’ the scheme will help support these members in case any unfortunate incident occurs. The initiative is in partnership with Donewell Life and Ringfence Insurance and targets individuals from drivers’ unions, artisans, polling stations and constituency executives.
In all 665 individuals drawn from at least 10 identifiable groups in the constituency have been insured. The policy in terms of benefits for death, permanent and temporary disability, and critical illness covers up to GHC10,000.
In her speech, Atiwa East MP Abena Osei-Asare said although these identified groups contribute greatly to the economy of the constituency and the nation noting that it is paramount for her to initiate such interventions for them.
“I want to urge you all to continue playing their part by fulfilling their tax obligations and promoting love, peace, and security in our constituency and the country as a whole. This launch marks the first phase and we have plans to expand the program and include additional groups in the future”, Osei-Asare who doubles as a Deputy Minister of Finance said.
“I am delighted to see our long-held dream materialize, as we work together to protect the lives of our people”, she added.
A representative of Donewell Life Insurance who took the beneficiaries through the policy also commended the lawmaker for the initiative and having her constituents at heart. He assured that her outlet will ensure they keep their end of the deal to serve agents when the need arises.
Some of the beneficiaries who expressed delight in the initiative praised the MP describing her as a forward-thinking leader.
“In fact, this is something we have been pushing our local leaders for a long time and we are fortunate to have this at our doorstep. The MP has done well and she deserves my commendation”, one of the beneficiaries told dailymailgh.com.
“This is a timely intervention from the MP. She already has my support. I will go all out to give her the critical support to ensure her dreams come to pass. This is a leader every constituent need and we must be proud of her”, another said.
