A 13-year-old boy shot and killed his eight year-old sister after finding a gun at home while his grand parents were out.
Princess Owusu Ansah died from multiple gunshot wounds when her older brother found a shotgun in his grandfather’s room and accidentally shot the little girl in the family’s Mampongten home, Police in the Ashanti Region said.
Tenants who were present said they heard the sound of a gunshot and rushed out only to find the deceased in a pool of blood.
Police have since detained the suspect (name withheld) and his 75-year-old grandfather, Kofi Attah.
No charges have been filed as of Monday, although police at the Mampongteng District Command say investigations have commenced.
Residents in the area have been thrown into a state of shock over the incident.
The development has since raised some serious concerns about the proliferation of guns and other weapons in the country.
In April last year, a four-year-old boy died in similar circumstances at Somanya in the Eastern Region.
The deceased, Alex Amanor Ologo was reportedly playing with his grandfather with his 6-year-old brother.
At the time of filing this report the court at Somanya was yet to bring finality to the matter.
