Hearts of Oak kicked off their new era under coach Aboubakar Ouattara with an impressive 3-0 victory over RTU at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

The Phobians managed to avenge their previous encounters with RTU, where they had struggled to secure a win, thanks to an outstanding performance highlighted by Hamzah Issah’s first-half brace and Enock Asubonteng’s goal after halftime.

The excitement began early in the match when Hamzah Issah opened the scoring for Hearts of Oak in the 18th minute, displaying superb control with his chest before unleashing a precise volley into the net.

Issah continued to shine, doubling his tally with a well-timed header from a pinpoint cross delivered by Salifu Ibrahim in the 40th minute, before being substituted off to a chorus of applause from the fans.

After the halftime break, Hearts of Oak maintained their dominance, with Enock Asubonteng extending their lead with a clinical finish in the 70th minute, effectively putting the game out of reach for RTU. Despite creating numerous scoring opportunities, the Phobians were unable to capitalize on all of them, displaying some wastefulness in front of goal.

Nevertheless, the comprehensive victory sees Hearts of Oak climb to 9th position on the league standings, with 24 points to their name. On the other hand, RTU finds themselves at the bottom of the table with 17 points, reflecting on their disappointing performance.

Looking ahead, RTU will aim to bounce back when they host Bofoakwa Tano in their next fixture, while Hearts of Oak will face a challenging away match against Nsoatreman. As both teams strive to improve their positions in the league, the stage is set for more thrilling encounters in the Ghana Premier League.
