Liverpool FC legend John Barnes says he will be surprised if Arsenal FC decides to sell midfielder Thomas Partey this summer.
Barnes believes Partey has been the best midfielder for the Gunners and doesn’t understand why the club should be thinking of getting rid of the player.
Arsenal finished second on the league table at the end of the season and qualified for the UEFA Champions League competition for the first time in five seasons.
With reports suggesting the Ghanaian international could move to Juventus FC or a top team in Suadi Arabia, Barnes has shared his opinion on the current transfer rumour.
“Arsenal potentially selling Thomas Partey would surprise me because I think he’s their best defensive player”, he said
“Is it a personality thing with Partey? Partey has done really well for Arsenal but it could be similar to Cancelo with Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.
“We don’t know the ins and outs of it but I am surprised because he’s a strong defensive midfielder.
“Declan Rice could be coming in so they may decide Rice is the best option going forward.”
Partey was a key member of the Red and Whites outfit as they secured Champions League football and won the goal of the season award with his strike against Tottenham Hotspur.
