The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) has issued a directive demanding the appearance of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, within the next seven days.

The order was issued during a meeting at the Manhyia Palace on Monday (22 January).

The council also extended the summons to private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw and the management of Wontumi TV/Radio, following allegations that the lawyer made unsavoury comments against the Chiefs, particularly directed at the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

A delegation from the NPP reportedly visited the Manhyia Palace on Monday to address concerns related to alleged inappropriate remarks made by Wontumi against Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

However, it was revealed that the Regional Chairman could not attend the meeting due to health reasons.

Justin Kodua, the General Secretary of the NPP, who led the delegation, requested an adjournment of the sitting for two weeks. However, the Council rejected the proposal and adjourned the sitting to Monday, January 29.

“The issue is yet to be brought to our attention and so I will urge Nananom to exercise restraints”, said the Bantamahene Baafour Owusu Amankwatia VI, who presided over the sitting.

“But I want to use this occasion to implore you (the party leadership) to advise your Ministers, CEOs and other appointees in government that nobody can toy with the Asante Kingdom. I will urge you to produce Wontumi and Maurice Ampaw and the entire management of Wontumi TV/Radio to appear before us”, he stated.

The party has, however, disassociated itself from the comments made by Lawyer Maurice Ampaw.

“Maurice is responsible for his actions we have no hands in his comments”, said Justin Frimpong Kodua.
