NPP whips NDC on Twitter as #NPPHasDoneBetter trend knocks out opposition agenda

A prelude of December’s Presidential election was staged on Twitter on Monday when two hashtags, #NPPHasDoneBetter and #NPPFailedPromises battled on the microblogging site.

It all began on Monday afternoon when the hashtag #NPPFailedPromises popped up on twitter simultaneously with the NDC’s press conference held in Accra to disect what the NDC claimed was failed promises by the NPP.

The timing of the #NPPfailedPromises hashtag appeared to be a grand orchestration by the NDC to amplify their Alisa presentation. However, despite the hashtag trending at number one for some time, its contents failed to address or point out particular promises the NPP made and failed to fulfill.

As the pro NDC #NPPfailedPromises lingered, a counter hashtag #NPPHasDoneBetter, which sought to highlight the achievements of the ruling NPP popped up.

The pro-NPP hashtag came with a coordinated message of listing the various promises by the NPP and pointing out how these promises have been fulfilled.

Interestingly, while the pro-NDC #NPPfailedPromises mainly focused on attacking key personalities in the NPP like President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia, the pro NPP hashtag #NPPHasDoneBetter mainly focused highlighting the achievements of the NPP on the economy, agriculture, industrialisation, education, health, sports etc.

Within a few hours of its emergence on the twitter, the pro-NPP #NPPHasDoneBetter hashtag knocked out the NDC’s #NPPfailedPromise hashtag from the number spot of the most trending issues on twitter in Ghana.

As #NPPHasDoneBetter continued to consolidate its top spot by tweeting about the achievements of the NPP government, the #NPPfailedPromises appeared to be slipping out of contention.

As at 9 p.m. on Monday night, the #NPPHasDoneBetter hashtag was still at number one while the pro NDC #NPPfailedPromises had slipped out of sight on the list of the most trending topics on twitter in Ghana.

The #NPPHasDoneBetter hashtag only lost its number one slot late Monday night to Assin North MP, Hon. Kennedy Agyepong when he took his seat on the popular The Seat program on Net 2 TV to continue his relentless feud with fake pastors in the country.
