On-duty police officer found dead with rifle between thighs

The Ghana Police Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a police officer at Akim-Swedru in the Eastern region.

The body of Lance Corporal Alhassan Asare was found lifeless Friday morning at the top floor of Dukes Petrol Filling Station by his colleague who had gone to fill his car.

He was spotted on a plastic chair with his rifle in between his thighs with severe gunshot wounds in the head with his uniform soaked with blood.

A police team had been dispatched to the scene at the time Dailymailgh.com visited the scene.

His body has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy. Police have described the incident as “unnatural death”.

The development comes barely 24 hours after another officer was gunned down by unknown assailants at Manso-Akropong in the Ashanti Region.

The assailants also bolted with his rifle. His body was found lifeless when a police team visited the scene.

Investigations have begun in the case.
