CELEBRATION: Jordan Ayew

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has praised Jordan Ayew’s tenacity following the striker’s impeccable form this season.

Ayew scored for the second successive time in Crystal Palace jersey in the Premiership as they saw off his former club Aston Villa by a lone goal to nothing at Selhurst Park.

Hodgson mentioned that Ayew’s determination and patience has been key as he kept doing his best at training even though sometimes he was not getting playing time.

“When he puts icing on the cake by scoring a goal last week and this week, then it’s happy days – there’s no doubt about that. It’s particularly happy days for him and happy days he deserves. Last season, he didn’t get many opportunities he would like to have had,” Hodgson told his club’s website.

“There were many times he found himself on the bench as a substitute and wasn’t even getting onto the field of play but never once did he stop working hard in training. Never once did he stop trying to do the right things in training. Players, like that when their moments arrive, as a coach you feel happy for them,” he added.

The Ghanaian attacker is in line for the Crystal Palace player of the month for August.
