It was one of the rarest spectacles in the religious sphere as Ghana’s chief imam Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu joined the Sunday service of Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra to mark his 100th birthday.

His birthday falls on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

He used the occasion to drum home the need to safeguard the peaceful co-existence between Christians and Muslims in the West African nation.

The calm Islamic scholar has been a symbol of peace among Muslims in oil-rich Ghana and his presence at a place of worship for Christians goes a long way to cement his long held desire for religious tolerance.

His host Father Andrew Campbell presented him with a bouquet of flowers and gifts to mark his centennial celebrations.

The Chief Imam’s presence in a church has gone viral on social media as Ghanaians commend him for such initiative.

However, a few pressed for clarification over his visit in a church.

Sheikh Sharubutu was born on April 23, 1919.
