President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Samuel Kobina Annim as the substantive government statistician.

Mr. Annim takes over from David Kombat who was in an acting position.

Mr. Kombat will be returning to his former role as Director of Communication.

Brief profile of Samuel Kobina Annim

Prior to his appointment, Samuel Kobina Annim, was an Associate Professor of applied micro-econometerics at the Department of Economics, University of Cape Coast.

He earned BA, MPhil and PhD degrees in Economics at the University of Cape Coast (Ghana), University of Ghana (Ghana) and University of Manchester (UK), respectively.

Samuel joined the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy as Deputy Director in August 2013 when the Directorate was established.

From August 2015 to July 2016, he served as the Head of the Department of Economics in the University of Cape Coast.

Prior to that, he contributed to/initiated the establishment of the Microfinance Unit, Centre for Data Archiving, Management, Analysis and Advocacy and Economic Policy Modeling Unit all in the Department of Economics.

He has over 30 peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters and technical reports to his credit. Some of his publications are available in academic journals such as World Development, Journal of Development Studies and Journal of International Development.

In addition, he consults for development partners and governments both in Africa and South East Asia.
