World Environment Day: Save Our Beaches Ghana cleans Korle Gonno Beach

Save Our Beaches – Ghana, a NGO with the passion to transform Ghana’s beaches into places of beauty and end some destructive activities such as open defecation, sand winning and dumping of refuse at the beaches, organized a clean-up exercise in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited.

The clean-up was organized to observe the World Environment Day which falls on every 5th of June. World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.

The Clean-up exercise took place at the Korle Gonno beach, stretching from opposite the fire Service training school to Dodo Beach (after Lavender Hill). The clean- up commenced at 6:30 am with volunteers and workers of Zoomlion tackling the mammoth filth along the stretch. The people present were presented with hand gloves, nose masks, rakes, brooms and boots to clear the filth.

Present at the Clean – up exercise included the Chairman for the Ablekuma South Sub Metro, Mr. Lawrence Breenslade, Mr. Raymond Seth Tetteh, Chairman of Ashiedu Keteke Sub Metro, Mr. Kwei, Zonal Supervisor of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, community development officers and Mr. Kafui Dey, who is the Clean Beach Ambassador.

Two full containers of filth were collected at the beachside. Some of the trash cleaned at the beach include empty bottles, shoes, bags, pure water sachets, umbrellas, among others.

The Chairman for Ablekuma South Sub-Metro, Mr. Breenslade commended the NGO and Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the good work done and called for more collaboration to transform the Korle Gonno Beach.

Mr. Dey promised that Save Our Beaches – Ghana would not rest in their work and would press on to ensure that tangible changes are seen nationwide. He called on all stakeholders and companies to support the worthy cause to ensure that the vision of clean beaches is realized.

The clean-up exercise was supported by Bel Beverages, producers of Bel-Aqua, and subsidiary of Blow Group of Companies.
