10 questions the Economic Fighters League are asking the Ghana Police Service

  1. The notice was served five days before the event in accordance with the law, if the police were not okay with it, why didn’t the police go to court to obtain an order to stop the Vigil if they knew the notice was short?
  2. What rights do the police have to shoot live ammunitions to disturb the gathering of people that were not showing signs of aggressions.

3. If all the members (less than 100) had nose masks and constantly ensured social distancing, what other grounds did they police raise issues about Covid-19 protocols on?

4. The police called off the vigil without any written documentation by bringing men who were armed to the teeth. Isn’t this a cause to cause fear and intimidation among the public?

5. CiC Ernesto Yeboah was illegally arrested yet the police have refused to publicly acknowledge their gross incompetence. How do we guarantee that we have a constitutional police force that understands the laws and its applications?

6. How can the police fire live ammunitions at unarmed people demanding for answers towards justice?

7. The police arrested CiC Ernesto Yeboah without any charges and tried hiding his whereabouts. Isn’t this synonymous to kidnapping?

8. During which stage or level of unrest can the military be invited in? The members of the vigil were met with the military during the early stage of the vigil even though no form of aggressions and disturbances had been shown on the part of the members of the vigil attendees.

9. Is striking a person to the ground and using excessive force to disperse the peaceful gathering of people a breach of police codes of ethics? If so, how come justice isn’t being served.?

10. Why did the other officers at the Accra Regional Police Station lie about the whereabouts of Ernesto Yeboah by insisting there is no such person in?
